What is Crypto Mining?

“Mining” in the context of crypto currency is about solving an extremely complex computational math problem. In a network of thousands of computers competing to solve it, the first to find the solution to the problem is awarded the next block of bitcoins.

Mining Software

There are quite a few choices for the program you can use to mine bitcoin, checkout this list.

In my case I used Cudo Miner, because why not? I wasn’t particularly picky with the software, plus the UI of this miner seemed pretty straightforward.

Simply sign up, download, and push that ‘start mining’ button. That’s it.

My Hardware

Most cryptocurrency mining machine use a graphics card (GPU) to perform their mining operations. Mining can also be done in CPU, but it’s far less efficient.

In my room I have a spare machine with a decent GPU card Nvidia RTX 4000 with 8GB memory.

Here’s my observation: once the mining started, the fans go crazy, the GPU performance feels like they’re getting maxed out. The chassis also started getting warm. I had to use an external fan to help it cool while it work for months.

How much I made in 2 months?

$52. That’s how much I made in 2 months of mining.

Final thoughts

Is it worth it? No.

The cost of surge in my electricity bill was even higher than how much I made in 2 months of mining.
