I know because I am one of them.

When I got my first job straight out of college, I got hired by an outsourcing company in the Philippines. My gross annual income that time was around $4,000. Considering the cheap cost of living in the Philippines, I thought this amount is just enough to get by comfortably.

Seven years later I’m making around $16,000. With all the experience I got throughout the years in the industry and awareness about the average salary rate of a Software Engineer in other countries, the seven grand pay grade seemed to be very low.

Take a look at the average entry level rate in Japan.

That’s $36,000 for an entry level. In my case, I should be earning north of $50,000, at this point of my career. But unfortunately, I’m not. Come on, even if you consider the fact that the cost of living in japan is sufficiently higher than in Philippines, the difference is still huge.
