“How to Win Friends and Influence People” is a classic self-help book written by Dale Carnegie and published in 1936. I’ve never really read Dale’s other works before this, but man this book is one of the best I have read this year. It changed the way how I interact with people, and most definitely for the better.

Without further ado, here are the top 5 lessons that especially stood out to me.

I choose to be happy today

“Everybody in the world is seeking happiness — and there is one sure way to find it. That is by controlling your thoughts. Happiness doesn’t depend on outward conditions. It depends on inner conditions.”

If you want to change yourself, you have to change your thoughts first. It is said that an average person has 6000 thoughts in a day. That’s a lot. It is very important to understand that happiness of one’s life will be greatly affected by which random thoughts you choose to focus on and which ones you choose to ignore.

You don’t always have to appear right

Because if the other person thinks that he is right, they are convinced that they are absolutely right. You won’t convince them and you’ll just make them mad at you.
